Oh glad the molester got done. He mustn't've had friends in high places. Hope the cops got him too.

Our family's crucifixion Part: 2
by Newly Enlightened inoh man what a week!
where to begin?.
so, on mon the 13 th we had our video released by jj/ray of jwstruggle, which is going great and we've had some great supportive comments, but we sent the link to a friend of ours who is a current jw but knows ttatt, and he replies, "why would you do something like that?

Your crime was showing the pictures in a 'negative' way. Pointing out something off-colour or a bit pongy, with no commentary, just the literature, is considered apostate. ANYTHING slightly contradictory is considered apostate because these guys are so strapped into a mental straightjacket even asking why Jehovahmade cats to lick their butts would probably be apostate!

I can understand why the may not have wanted to come in from a safety perspective. I never liked going into a stranger's house when invited, without a bloke present. If I did, I would stay standing. Not a good guest you might say or good witness, but I always thought of my safety.
And they probably didn't want to talk about something out of their little zone. Funny though, round here if a Jw gets a person at home willing to talk, they stay there for an hour! It was always such a buzz to get someone home, let alone wanting to talk to you.

Great recount of an interesting life! Good to have people who can tell us ex rank n file what really went on behind the scenes at the hall.
Ps about that wt with the nasty message, I'd send it back saying, 'I'm really gonna miss you there too ...' But it might get the familials off side. Oh, I bless my family that they never converted! Thank God I was the only one.
Keep up with the cool writings! I like your style.

Do David Splanes offensive and pompous orations have a silver lining?
by ranmac inim starting to think so.. i was still somewhat active in meeting and assembly attendance when i first started doubting the jw life.
when i first heard splane give a discourse, it was a real wake up call as to what kind of people are controling this organization.
the next time i heard him speak he was even worse.. as ive seen on this forum, many people have had the same experience.. in slimboyfats thread, http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/251890/1/british-zone-visit-from-david-splane-a-report-from-the-special-meeting-in-glasgow, he noted this gem from splane: if traumatic things have happened in your past then just don't think about it, that's the best you can do until the new system.. this is one of the most irresponsible and rage inducing comments i have ever heard.

Oh he's so nice and such a great speaker! Said a friend of mine after we saw Gerrit Loesch give some speeches at an international. Hero worship: these guys could get up and belch into the microphone and everyone would think it was great. When you revere someone, they can do no wrong.

Seeing the Strange in the JW Familiar
by laverite inthere are times when we manage to step outside of our own identities, perspectives and world view, and look at ourselves, our situations or certain lived experiences almost as an outsider.
sociologists call it seeing the strange in the familiar.
an anthropologist by the name of miner wrote a fascinating piece involving this very concept (see http://www.ohio.edu/people/thompsoc/body.html).

Realising what a pompous self righteous git I was. The weirdest thing now looking in, is that these people subjugate their own instincts to the watchtower magazine.

There are *good* people out there! Yes -gasp!- in the "world"!!
by Muddy Waters init is still a wonderful discovery and pleasant surprise to continually keep finding that there are some awesomely *good* people out there in the "world"!.
it's such a neat thing, this (slow, yet very rewarding!
) process of making new, non-jw friends.... i recently had my first meal at the home of one of these new wonderful people we've just met and i just must share this!

Me neither. For years I struggled with the cognitive dissonance caused by the fact that most people are good eggs. It was usually neutralised by 'ah but they don't love Jehovah, that's the material difference!' Pity a lot of JWs don't love Jehovah either.

Most who leave simply do say goodbye and move on with their lives. Most dissidents don't become the militant apostate, but the militant apostate is the dissident the JW apologist is most likely to come across. The rest of us do just up and leave.
